Safe Water and WASH Activities
In the coastal regions of Bangladesh, salinity intrusion and severe scarcity of safe drinking water remain major challenges. To address this critical issue, ARA is implementing an integrated WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) project to ensure access to safe water, improved sanitation, and better hygiene practices.
This initiative is being implemented with the support of two key partners:
Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF)
With the support of BNF, deep and shallow tube wells are being installed for poor and underserved households in coastal areas. This intervention is helping communities gain easy access to safe drinking water at their doorstep, significantly improving daily living conditions and health outcomes.
Islamic Relief Bangladesh
With support from Islamic Relief, a comprehensive WASH program is being implemented, which includes:
Construction of sustainable and safe latrines
Rainwater harvesting systems for water conservation
Hygiene promotion and awareness activities
These interventions are helping to reduce health risks and improve overall community hygiene practices.
2.Key Achievements of the Project
Through the WASH intervention, the following improvements have been achieved:
Increased access to safe drinking water
Improved sanitation facilities in households
Enhanced awareness of hygiene practices
Significant reduction in waterborne diseases
Improved overall community health conditions
Target Population
The project primarily focuses on:
Poor and vulnerable households in coastal areas
Communities affected by salinity intrusion
Women, children, and high-risk groups
4. Project Impact
The WASH program has created meaningful changes in people’s lives:
Reduced health risks through safe water access
Reduced time and burden of water collection, especially for women and children
Improved hygiene awareness and behavior change
Created safer, healthier, and more dignified living conditions
Action for Rural Advancement (ARA) strongly believes that access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is a fundamental right and a foundation for sustainable development.
Through the collaboration of the Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF) and Islamic Relief, this WASH initiative is transforming the lives of vulnerable coastal communities. It is not just an infrastructure project, but a vital step toward building a healthier, safer, and more dignified future for all.
