Dialogue Held with the District Legal Aid Committee
A dialogue meeting with the District Legal Aid Committee was held on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Mangrove Conference Hall, Satkhira. The event was organized under the RENEW Project of ARA, with the cooperation of Manusher Jonno Foundation and Christian Aid, and was implemented by ARA. The dialogue was arranged by the Satkhira Municipality Women Protection Forum under the RENEW Project.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad, Executive Director of ARA. He inaugurated the program with an opening speech and discussed various important issues related to women’s advancement in society.
The Chief Guest of the event was Md. Abdul Hai Siddique, Program Officer, One-Stop Crisis Cell (OCC). He expressed his satisfaction upon learning about the eleven-member Women Protection Forum at the ward level and elaborately discussed various government facilities to ensure legal assistance for women, especially the services provided by the Department of Women Affairs. He also mentioned that women and children who are victims of violence can receive government-allocated medical treatment through the OCC.
The Honorable Special Guests included Advocate Mohammad Moniruddin, Panel Lawyer, District Legal Aid, Satkhira; Advocate Shelina Akter Shelly, Legal Advisor, Municipality Women Protection Forum; and Farida Akter Beauty, President, Municipality Women Protection Forum.
A total of 40 participants attended the meeting, including members and leaders of the Women Protection Forums from nine wards of the municipality.
During the meeting, the legal aid activities of the RENEW Project were presented through a presentation. The special guests emphasized the importance of women moving forward and making their own efforts to access legal services.
Leaders of the Women Protection Forums from different wards—Sharmin Nahar, Shila Rani Mondol, Fatema Khatun, Nurjahan Sultana Parul, Sonia Akter, Gulshanara Begum, and Tashkura Begum, among others—shared their experiences. They highlighted how they received legal support through ARA and expressed their gratitude to the organization.
The program was moderated by Sardar Asifur Rahman, Project Coordinator of the RENEW Project. Other attendees included Sultan Mahmud (Event Organizer), Sikandar Abu Jafar, and Ozifa Khatun.
